I've been at my studio working hard, hard, and I have some wonderful music as a result. I've produced about 5 new joints, these are bangers, they gonna hit ya real hard, fa real. The instrumentation on these smokers makes for unbelievable sound qualities - your ears will be taken on a "Glendell" ride - I'm taking you to planet "Glendell". As for uploading them to soundclick.com, I'll do that soon, so in the meantime listen to my other music which you can hear, right now, on this blog. Go to it, peeps!!! Click and listen. We Artists Hate Marketing!!!

Being an artist, I really hate marketing sometimes, yes, we creatives have to do it too - we’re businessmen, too. But let me tell ya....sometimes...sometimes I just hate the idea of marketing, it is so time consuming. It definitely takes me out of my artistic mode, makes me feel alittle numb, or should I say, alittle too left-brained? Puts me in a mood similar to an accountant, you know. And that is death to an artist, that is totally alien to our nature....sometimes I just wanna cut off my ear(yeah, in reference to that painter guy).

Well...I just wanted to drop this tidbit on you guys, I been marketing my art and music so much lately I had to talk about it. An artist can get extremely annoyed by business dealings, at least this one can. Well, back to “Artland”, the place I love so much.

Here is a new piece of artwork I finished recently:

Hello...Helloo...back in town...WHUOOO...I been busy. Oh, yeah, thank you all for helping me become #7 and #36 on the charts over at sounclick.com. Much LOVE! Now, about the business at hand, I’m in a artsy mood and so I’m going to talk about my art. Since I been away, I have been producing artwork like crazy...and created some interesting pieces. Artwork comes through me the same way that music flows into me, it just appears and demands my attention. A joy...just total joy.

Also, in my travels, I’ve discovered some new websites to present and sell my art on. One is Redbubble.com, I love this art site, it’s well put together and has some nice items and services for us artists. Redbubble it's also a good place for art lovers of every age, they have posters, art prints, mugs, t-shirts and more. Another one is Cafepress.com, this is the big one, it’s been around forever and by far, has the most visitors. So if art is what's on your mind for a Christmas gift, check out these websites.

Well, I’m now selling my artwork on both sites. Below is some of t-shirts I’m selling, hope you like them:

What A Martial Artist: Bruce Lee

This was one tough homie, I mean he could jab, he could punch, he could kick, and he could use them nunchakus like they were an extension of his body. This man was a one man army...one opf the best martial artist the world will ever see. Bruce Lee was a wonder to behold, his martial art skills were legendary and he was definitely a super dedicated student of the Far Eastern philosophy.

Bruce Lee is the the person that hearlded in the then “new” chinese, asian methods of fighting and combat. Mr. Lee had all of us howling and mimicking the fighters from the Far East...and I was one of them. When I was a little guy growing up in the “hood”, me and most of my buddies were wild about this guy from China named Bruce Lee. This entertaining martial art expert was some entertainer - we felt our manhood when we saw Bruce Lee in one of his movies...his fighting was so unique..."he seems so real"...we would say, “Bruce Lee is one of us, he don’t take no mess...he’s just like us”. We use to make nunchakus out of used, old broomsticks(a new one would have been preferred but momma-sensei wasn't having that, hah...haaa...). Hey...don’t discard them old, wornout brooms....I might want to make another pair of nunchakus. Bruce Lee and his martial art friends would be proud.

A lot of you may see Bruce in a not so kind light. “Wasn’t he dangerous?" "Who could want to praise a warmonger, a violent person?" Alright, I will give you that. But do remember that martial art and martial art followers mainly persue the fighting discipline not as an offensive strategy but as a means to avoid or combat aggression. Bruce Lee was a strong advocate of this usage of kung-fu and the other forms of asian fighting. He was real martial artist and a nice man to boot.

Like I say, Bruce Lee was one exciting cat and deserves all the accolades we and the rest of the world can give his memory. I for one will always miss the guy who’s influence possessed me to the point where I was cutting and chopping up my mother’s broomsticks...man...this Bruce Lee must’ve had “it”. Yes, he did.

Using Black & White In Artwork And Calligraphy

Black and white artwork is a whole subject onto itself, I simply love it, black and white are the true extreme colors, and they call for strong imagery and subject matter for them to unvail their true power. Art that is black and white seems to call for something from its viewer - calling for our input to add to its raw, blunt character. Black and white artwork impresses our retinas in such a direct way, our consciusness, our emotions...and our memories awaken in the most profound manner when we see these strikingly contrast colors.

There is one well known effect of using black and white in artwork, most of us know of this quality from its presence in photography. This effect is age, the past, black and white has always been used to relay the impression of the past - an earlier time. Most of this effect comes from the time when photography was only available in black and white, a fact most of us are aware of. Observe this effect in the following images:

Nostalgia, memories, the past, are definite qualities exuded by the color combination of black and white...the pictures above immediately sent you back to the past, to memories you haven’t recalled in quite some time. This is a secret that Madison Avenue has always use in its efforts to sentd our minds into the past - a secret it has used very successfully. But this effect has been known and used by many others as well. The contrasting elements of the two colors just catches the attention; we just can defend our mind from their definity; their directness, no other colors influence us so dramaticly.

There is another profound area where we see black and white reining supreme; it has been used for this purpose since ancient times - begining with the very creation of paper - it’s called “writing” - the most popular form of visual communication. Writing is also used as an art form - lettering - lettering is used constantly in advertising, design and other methods using visual media. But there is also another distingished means of utilizing print or the written word, its called “calligraphy”, calligraphy is a decorative form of writing, a complex style of writing that takes time and practice - not to mention artistic talent to master. And black ink on white paper is the tradition way of producing this so revered form of printing the human language. The use of black and white is the standard; gives this style of writing and art form its intense effect on the eyes; gives it its beauty. Below are examples of the art of calligraphy:

Being the most contrasting colors of all, black and white can present qualities that no other colors can. They can steer us into a loftier mind state, a delightful state of mind through use of lines, curves, etc., or by using the same throw ourselves into a dull, horrific mental state. Other colors can do the same thing but never in so striking a manner as these two fundamental colors.

To experience the effects of black and white, as with all colors, is to use them often - only in this way will the artist feel and know a chosen color. Start experimenting with black and white artwork, I’m sure you’ll be amazed by the results.

Leona Lewis, Jimmy Kimmel & Carson Daly Ain’t Playing

Leona Lewis, I saw Leona Lewis last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, he and Carson Daly’s “Last Call” really put on recording artists that people want to see; even if they are not widely known. They also put on our favorites too - singers other shows won’t book. Theses telecasts give new artists some very valuable exposure. Leona Lewis is the latest beneficiary, she performed on the hip show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night, she seems like she really wants to be a big rock star. What? Every singer wants to be a rock star or singing star...we all want to succeed and succeed big. Man, was I surprised...the woman is gorgeous, I mean drop-dead gorgeous - and you wonder why I’m in this business?**### - just kidding.

Hey, how about “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and Carson Daly’s “Last Call” though, them cats doing it. Right? I mean they “on point” with bringing on them acts - and that’s real. They’re giving the “rock star” feel or favor. “Jimmy Kimmel Live” even has real outdoor concerts, I mean real stage shows, first time I saw that on a late night show. Or was it Carson Daly’s...? Oh yeah, how about Jimmy Kimmel’s Matt Damon skit, that’s so funny, poor Matt Damon, if only they had enough time. Like I said, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Last Call” ain’t playing peoples, they pulling out all the stops and I, for one, love it. Their musical guests is what’s powering both shows, and that’s okay with me...I can go to David Letterman or Conan O’Brien for my chuckles...

Now, this Leona Lewis is nice to look at, I would like to inspect and observe this specimen again. Can some one tell me where I can do that? He, hee...Leona Lewis, you looking good girl...

Maybe The Poetry Of Alfred, Lord Tennyson Can Help

Want to lift you spirits? Well, how about this? - let’s learn to jot down some poetry - poetry can really bring a dull mind up, and help one see life from a whole new spectrum. Most of you reading this think you would only be wasting thy precious time reading poems and writing poetry - I beg to differ. Alfred Tennyson, Robert Bly, David Thoreau, William Blake, Emily Dickinson, James Joyce, Joanna Baillie - all great poets who found great dimensions in the use of the written word. These poetry lovers and many more just like them, see here: all about poets, thought man could, and can see more into his existence by expressing himself through the written word. Go there and find wonderful poets and consciousness-raising poetry that I’m sure will enlighten your mental state. Words can hurt - but they can also heal.

Poetry is founded not just on the the abilty to rhyme words, that’s not the sole reason or foundation for the creation of poetry. A poet attempts to convey his or her inner perception - their soul - regarding a given subject or subjects. Poems are his medium.They want to communicate their feelings in a direct way - away that can startle and confuse our so mudane minds. Take this, read this sampling from Alfred, Lord Tennyson(1809-1892):

“Ring Out, Wild Bells"

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more,
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out thy mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

See how this poet used his soul speech to take us whirlwinding through the mystical wonderland of a great poet, this is poetry to shake the “soul”. I bow to you in thankfulness, oh Lord Tennyson. You have just entered the inner sanctum of this great poets mind, time has no influence here, his dear words are as powerful today as they were when first put to paper in the year 1850 - be assured, time carries no strengh in these realms...dear one. And another by Emily Dickinson(1830-1886):

“A Day”

I'll tell you how the sun rose, -
A ribbon at a time.
The steeples swam in amethyst,
The news like squirrels ran.

The hills untied their bonnets,
The bobolinks begun.
Then I said softly to myself,
"That must have been the sun!"

But how he set, I know not.
There seemed a purple stile
Which little yellow boys and girls
Were climbing all the while

Till when they reached the other side,
A dominic in gray
Put gently up the evening bars,
And led the flock away.

How she touches the mind and senses so delicately, how we flow innocently into the living streams of her so fulfilling utterances. This be fine poetry, indeed. But, mind you; not all poetry is so lightening, so soft - some poetry hits like a sledge hammer - calling for movement, action on the part of its receiver. No...no...no...some poets seek to get us to act , to move in a certain direction. Oh yes, my friend, becoming a poet will take all of you and that is what life asks of us - ALL.

Peter Frampton We Still Love Ya!

Talk about guitarist and not a bad singer either, Peter Frampton was one great axeman, before a live audience or in the studio he was simply magnificent. I can remember him being interviewed on some television show along with KISS, man, did I enjoy those interviews, they came across as real people who just happen to make music. I remember wanting to be them during and after that show; I was left in awe by these musical geniuses. Peter Frampton and KISS showed their purely human side, the side we rarely get to see.

Peter Frampton’s vocal effect is back again,today we have the artist T-Pain(an artist whose talent can’t be denied) before T-Pain we had Roger Troutman, all users of the voicebox made famous by one Peter Frampton, who showchased it on “Do You Feel Like I Do?”. Oh and let’s not forget about Cher and her No.1 “hit” just a little while ago. In the seventies when Mr. Frampton made his “Frampton Comes Alive!“ album no one was doing that trick; that I’m aware of, but I suspect Peter Frampton got it from somebody. Please inform me. But all-n-all I say T-Pain and Roger Troutman got the idea from hearing Peter Frampton. I’d love to hear Peter’s opinion of the two recording artist, I know he has something to say about it - look - he should, he’s the guy who made it big.

Peter Frampton is still performing, and yes, it’s true... he hasn’t been able to return to the whirldwind success of his former years but still he carrys on. I for one, truly respect him for that - it shows that he is in the business because he loves playing his guitar and making music. Hey, you can see him in a Geico commercial though, so who knows. Maybe he can do it again - but we will surely miss seeing him with long golden locks, though.

How Hatred Of Novels Make You A Good Artist

conan

Growing up I read nothing but comic books. I didn’t understand books like novels; I just didn’t understand why someone would want a book that had no pictures. My take was that - you only read such books because you had to - like in school - a math book or something. I just didn’t get the idea of reading pages and pages of words and novels were at the top of my don’t do list. See...an artist is a visual being, we see life in pictures(Sperry found we use another side of the brain...interesting), pictures we later paint or draw. Now, of course, things are certainly different but back in the day you couldn't have caught me with one of those hated “novels”.

novels

Ya know, growing up is something else, you just can’t believe how you change mentally and physically over the years. I remember going to high school dances and skating rings; excuse me, skating rinks, for the politicly correct, and thinking my big brother, Preston(he used to drop me off to the rink), was surely missing out on all the fun...the music and the girls. Only to to have to grow up and find out that he could have been partying harder than me. You know, tighter dresses, alcohol, etc...I found out that the places he went to were hyper and more interesting than my hang-outs and he never told me. Why? Because I was too young, too wet behind the ears, as the grown-ups put it.

disco ball

You see what I mean? Youth does have its disadvantages - no doubt. So, back then I ran from any book or text that didn’t contain pictures or alot of pictures. By the way, Britney Spears is starting to make me a little crazy!(Britney Spears, if you’re reading this - remember I love ya baby) - do you know she will be appearing in the next episode of what ever that show's name is..sorry, ya’ll know the name of the show. See? This blog is “Live”, I give it to you raw baby. No fake hear, it's totally real baby. Good post, huh?

So long live comic books, man couldn’t have created a better thing for a young artist. Nearly every artist grew up loving comic books, of that I’m sure. All my art-inclined friends draw out of comic books; they all had a stack of roach attracting(I hope that didn’t shock my sweet little female blog readers, but the truth is what I speak...ya’ll a be alright).

And while I’m at it, I’d like you guys to know who my favorite comic book illustrator(back in the day I called them drawers) is, his name is John Buscema. He is a Marvel Comics artist, I followed him for years - he illustrated “Conan The Barbarian”. Oh man...I learned so much from this guy, he wrote a book too, “How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way”:

How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way

Just remember, comic books make excellent artist and save the novels and texts for later. Right artist...you wit me? Comic books RULE!

Stan Lee & Marvel Comics Rivaling Disney

Stan Lee and his Marvel Comics are proving a fair match for the giant Disney. Though Marvel can’t match the extreme wealth of Disney, it still is a formiable contender. Marvel is certainly gaining market share with its interesting and exciting superheroe line-up. We’ve always loved their comic books, and now with Marvel’s transition to and/or addition of films - we love them even more. Disney has to be feeling the heat from Marvel Comics movie success.

Stan Lee, the head of Marvel and creator of many of its superheroes, is doing a fantastic 4(how you like them apples?) job developing his company’s endeaver into feature films, the movies are nothing short of mind-blogging. They all do the given superhero or superheroes justice, they present an exacting pictorial of the characters - not to mention the showing of the superheroe’s powers - with the movie’s amazing special effects. Stan Lee you continue to get it done. I for one give you a standing ovation - you certainly deserve it.

Now, I’ll leave you guys with this: what if Stan Lee were a DC Comics guy? Things would certainly be different at DC Comics, look at the picture below:

The Art Of Pastel Portraiture

There is no more enjoyable activity for a portrait artist than the art of pastel portraiture. An artist who uses pastels enjoys both worlds - the world of dry media and the world of wet media. Let me explain why I said “wet" media, yes, a pasteI is most certainly a dry , hard substance, but a skilled pastel artist can make a pastel give the effect of oil paint, which as we know, is a “wet” media or medium. I myself can do this, it’s all about feeling the power of pastel.

Pastels give the artist the ability to produce wonderful effects, and it has one quality only a very few other mediums have: it can be touched, and worked with, just like the finger-painting of a child. But paint cannot be applied without a brush to any effect, one has to relie on his or her ability to handle a brush. Colors can be created and mixed like with using paint but again, success in this area depends on the artist’s skills. And remember you are working with a dry substance, but a dry sustance that has a unique quality and does what colored pencil can’t: mix like paint. In the art of pastel portraiture artists often use this unique quality to their advantage when attempting to exactly reproduce the subjects flesh tones, etc. and other parts of a portrait that stand out prominently. This blending of color is hard to accomplish using other dry mediums. Pastel does have special qualities.

The only way to experience the uniqueness of pastels and gain an understanding of why certain artist perfer them, is to start using this fine. The art of pastel portraiture will give an artist a new found respect for the magic of pastels. Pastels allow one to have both worlds of art: the dry one, along with the wet one. Get involved in the art of pastel portraiture today and enter a new world of color and portraiture.

Secret Revealed: Why The Rolling Stones, The Eagles And Other Bands Are Back!

Older bands and older singers are more popular than the current ones. Why? I know why - recording artist like The Rolling Stones, The Police, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles have something our current entertainers don’t: musical talent.

With the music industry's current ‘bring’m in, throw’m out’ mentality, what more could you expect? What the present music scene needs it exactly what these individuals provide: real good music. They give you creativity, musical ability, along with excitement - the very things the music industry is missing today. Trying to find decent music on the radio today can be a challenge, it can really bring a music-lover(like myself) to anger - good music is just simply hard to find on many a radio station. One has to go to the oldies or 70s, 80s radio stations. This is a crying shame, I’m sure you agree with my view on this.

Think on this: The Eagles made a song called “Hotel California”, it is a true gem, we know all the words to this masterpiece of a song. Now, tell me of a few recordings you know of now, current hits, that can stand up to that Eagle’s musical creation. Yep, you had to think for awhile didn’t you? The sorry material coming out of the present-day state of the music industry is testamount to a conspiracy, we all know the record business can do better. Now their up in arms over the low sales of cds - as if we the public were fools - we know bad music when we hear it. The music world needs to change; go back to true talent; great songwriting; great production and then it will see a turnaround.

It’s so nice to see recording artist from decades gone by in the limelight again. Musical giants like Led Zeppelin, The Police and The Rolling Stones bring along with them - showmanship, character, originality and most of all - really good music. Most of the present-day singers and bands could learn alot from these music world icons - that they(again, most of them, not all) are a far cry from these distinguished artist.

Leave a comment, what do you think?

The Real Reason That The Music Business Is Down!

Record company executives are feeling very down these days, the bis' just aint popping like it use to. Record and cd sales are way down. The state of affairs is, indeed, gloomy but I say it should have been expected. The music industry has been throwing out a lot of low quality music. The current group of recording artists leave much to be desired, most are simply bad duplicates of “true” and talented artist, like Micheal Jackson. Micheal Jackson, said to say, is a prime target of many of the wannabes in the music industry. Sales are down primarily because of the mediocre talent that now roams the music world’s praries, internet file-sharing is only a byproduct of the state of things, people don’t feel an impulse to buy most of today’s music offerings but they are willing to download it for free.

So, how can the record companies return to their place of glory? Well, the way consists in refusing to “sign” untalented bands and singers. Record companies must become more diligent and critical when choosing artists. They must come to realize that the public demands singers that can sing, producers that can produce and songwriters that can write. Anything short of this is bound to fail. The low sales of cds is showing music execs that what they are providing isn’t up to pare and we are not willing to pay for that kind of low, unartistic music. This present situation in the music business can turn around but it will take the combined effort of the record executives and talented artists - in an industry with little of both.

How to make a "hit" song with strong lyrics

The music industry and its rock stars strive on lyrics - lyrics are the parts of songs we sing. With lyrics a song communicates its purpose for being. A song may contain beautiful music, but if its lyrics don’t combine harmoniously with the melodic sounds - the song is sure to fail. The song will have no “vibe” and the listeners won’t be able to fully appreciate the music because of the misdirection of the vocals. The listener’s ears and mind will be caught in the uncomfortable position of trying to harmonize the enjoyable music with the annoying and distracting vocals. There are quite a few recordings with great music and unsettling lyrics. A great artist has great sounds and great songwriting. He feels the lyrics as well as the instruments. He gives both equal attention and this is how he makes “hit” songs - songs that communicate well. Apply these steps and make your next song a hit song:

    1. Think about the meaning of the song, think about the reason you want to make the song. This is the seed or root of the whole process - this it the part that determines the end result. Plant a good and healthy seed and you will later have a strong , healthy musical tree. Try and think like a rock star.

    2. Study the songwriting created and/or used by these successful recording artists and rock stars...artist like: Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, The Temptations, The Beatles, Micheal Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, The Carpenters, Elvis, Chaka Khan, Kiss.

    3. Rework the sounds and lyrics until you know that these components are existing in a complementary way; not taking away from each other. The drums can primarily relate to a section of the lyrics and the horns to another section. Keep trying and testing differtent lyric and musical arrangements, and finally you will feel and know you have a completed song.

Becoming a lyricist and songwriter

Songwriters are born with an ability to combine words and melodic sounds. These people hear sound in a somewhat different manner from the average person, and this accounts for their abilty to structure words in such musical ways. You, the person reading this, may be one of these individuals without even knowing it. I hope my words have opened your eyes to yourself ,and given you the courage to further develop your music and abilty to produce lyrics. Use and enjoy this information.
